A white 2024 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro off-roading over boulders.
One of the best things about a good pickup truck is its versatility. You can drive it around town, load it up with heavy cargo for deliveries, head out into the wilderness for some off-roading, or take it to a stadium parking lot for a tailgate party. Here at Toyota of Hopkinsville, we’re proud to offer the Toyota Tundra for sale since we know that it’s a capable and comfortable full-size truck that can handle just about anything you need to throw at it.

The 2024 Tundra is available with two different powertrains: the standard i-FORCE and the available i-FORCE MAX. Both use a turbocharged V6 engine, but the i-FORCE MAX is a hybrid that pairs its gasoline engine with an electric motor to deliver an extra dose of power. Just as a truck is useful in a wide variety of situations, upgrading to the hybrid powertrain can come in handy in all kinds of ways. Today, we’re going to take a look at four of them to give you an idea of how getting a Tundra powered by the i-FORCE MAX setup can improve your driving life no matter what you use your truck for.

#1 - Off-Roading

If you’re looking to leave the pavement behind, you want to make sure you’ve got enough power to handle unpredictable terrain. Off-roading means driving over loose dirt or gravel, rocky trails, and possibly even deep mud. It can be tough to get traction on some of these surfaces, and that’s before you take inclines into account. All-terrain or mud tires can certainly help, but you also need to make sure you have enough torque to physically turn the wheels when they’re facing sticky situations.

You can get the Tundra’s available TRD Off-Road Package on a model with the base i-FORCE engine, and it will serve you well, producing up to 389 hp and 479 lb-ft of torque. But it’s simply not the most off-road capable pickup in the Tundra lineup. For that, you’ll need to turn to the TRD Pro trim, which boasts an off-road suspension with FOX shocks, a 1.1-inch factory lift, a Multi-Terrain Select system with Crawl Control to help you tackle all kinds of trails, and an electronically-controlled locking rear differential to provide maximum torque when you need it.

On the 2024 Tundra, the TRD Pro trim exclusively comes with the i-FORCE MAX powertrain. This makes perfect sense when you look at the specs. Between the V6 engine and the electric motor, the hybrid powertrain makes nearly 50 additional horses and over 100 more lb-ft of torque than the base i-FORCE powertrain, giving you up to 437 hp and 583 lb-ft at your disposal. That makes a huge difference out on the trail, letting you get where you need to go and have a great time doing it. It’s also enough power to allow for 11,450 lbs of towing and 1,680 lbs of payload, so you can load up your bed or a trailer with all of the gear you need to fully enjoy your time in the great outdoors.

#2 - Road Tripping

As you may have realized looking at the power difference between the i-FORCE and i-FORCE MAX, the system’s electric motor has mainly been utilized to improve the truck’s performance, which can come in handy if you ever need to pass a sluggish semi on a rural two-lane highway. But that doesn’t mean that there’s no boost to the Tundra’s fuel economy when you opt for the hybrid setup. While a 2024 Tundra with the i-FORCE can get an estimated 18 MPG in the city and 23 MPG on the highway, coming together for a fuel economy of 20 MPG combined, a model powered by the i-FORCE MAX can add one or two miles per gallon to each category, getting an estimated 20 MPG in the city, 24 MPG on the highway, and 22 MPG combined.

If you’re just driving a short distance to your work each day, then that fuel economy difference might be negligible. But if you’re heading out on a road trip, those extra miles per gallon can add up to big savings at the pump. Whether you’re taking your camping trailer out to a faraway park to get a change of scenery and cross natural wonders off your bucket list or taking to the freeway to visit family in another state, every dollar counts. What you don’t spend on fuel, you can instead spend on good food, souvenirs, or experiences that you’ll remember for years to come.

#3 - Enjoying the Drive

Sometimes, it’s not about where you’re going. It’s just about having fun along the way. If you’re a driving enthusiast who believes that being behind the wheel can be an exciting experience in and of itself rather than just a way to get from Point A to Point B, then you’ll definitely want to consider upgrading to the i-FORCE MAX powertrain. If looking at the improvements in horsepower and torque didn’t already convince you of that, let’s look at something a little easier to visualize: how fast the Tundra can accelerate.

The non-hybrid Tundra is definitely solid, getting from zero to 60 mph in 6.1 seconds. For reference, the Ram 1500 HEMI does the same in 6.4 seconds, and the Silverado 1500 with its Duramax turbo-diesel takes 7.1 seconds. Looking at all of those figures, you’ll probably be impressed to see that with the i-FORCE MAX powertrain, the Tundra can go from zero to 60 mph in a mere 5.7 seconds. That kind of jolt is what thrilling drives are made of, so you can get your kicks out on the open road.

#4 - Unwinding After a Long Day

If you drive a truck, chances are you’re no stranger to hard work. Whether it’s a paid job where you’re on your feet all day or an off-the-clock hobby like DIY projects or off-roading, the tasks you’re heading toward when you get in the cab of your truck can take a lot out of you. After a long day putting blood, sweat, and tears into a worthy project, you deserve the reward of a comfortable ride in a luxurious truck. Fortunately, there are several options for the Tundra.

The Capstone trim is the most lush offering in the Tundra’s lineup. Its leather-trimmed front seats are 10-way power adjustable with four-way adjustable lumbar support so you can get your position just right and avoid a sore back. A 10-inch color head-up display lets you see navigation directions and other important information without taking your eyes off the road for even a second, and the available adaptive variable suspension system keeps your ride nice and smooth whether you’re driving over a freshly-paved road or a gravel driveway. The black and white interior with dark American walnut woodgrain trim ties the whole thing together, making the cabin feel downright homey. This trim is only available with the i-FORCE MAX powertrain, which adds a boost of smooth power to your driving experience. You’ll see why it’s called “Capstone” once you get behind the wheel and feel like you’re on top of the world.
