While you may have thought they were comparable, our table shows just how much more reliable the Toyota Highlander is. While both of these SUVs offer all-wheel drive and different versions of safety systems, the similarity stops there. The Toyota Highlander L offers four standard drive modes compared to the Honda Pilot model’s one. And while you may not see the Toyota Highlander having high towing capacity, it does rival that of many trucks on the market. The Toyota Highlander can tow 5,000 pounds on its base model,³ while the base model of the Honda Pilot has a maximum towing capacity of 3,500 pounds.⁓ Do the kids need something to entertain them along the ride? With the available 10-inch Head-Up Display (HUD) and Wi-Fi connectivity, you’ll have them sitting nice and comfortable. And to top it all off, the Honda Pilot doesn’t even offer a hybrid option on their model. Doesn’t sound very environmentally conscious to us.

Do not exceed any Weight Ratings and follow all instructions in your Owner’s Manual. The maximum you can tow depends on base curb weight plus the total weight of any cargo, occupants, and added vehicle equipment. ā€œAdded vehicle equipmentā€ includes additional standard/optional equipment and accessories added by the manufacturer, dealers, and/or vehicle owners. The only way to be certain of your vehicle’s exact curb weight is to weigh your vehicle without passengers or cargo.
